Enterprise Week - Year 2 trip to Homebase.

We loved Homebase today.  It was really interesting and so much fun.

We started with a look at the garden centre.  Gary showed us how all the plants get watered and how different kinds of plants like different types of compost.   We got to look in the warehouse and see where the delivereies come in and where all the stock is kept.  It was interesting how it gets moved around on pallets by a forklift truck.

Later, we got to go into a door that needed a secret code as it is for "Staff Only".  Gary told us how the arched doorway used to be part of the old Blandford St Mary School.  There is a plaque above the door to show people.  We had a look in the staff room, Manager's office and the computer room.  We saw an enormous printer and Gary showed us how it prints the price labels to go on the shelves.

We then headed to the tills.  Gary needed another secret code to log on to the tills.  We all got to have a go at scanning items through the tills.  It was only slightly awkward when we had all scanned through £65 worth of malteasers and didn't have any money to pay!

Finally, we headed back out to the garden centre.  Mark said we could have a go at potting up some seeds for them.  We all added compost and Mrs Hargreaves handed out the bean seeds.  Mark was very kind and said we were welcome to take the potted beans home with us.  He also gave us some flower seeds to brighten up the Year 2 garden.  We checked the instructions when we returned to school and we need to plant them in March, April or May.

What an exciting visit and thank you to all our adult volunteers who came with us.  Have a look...
