We started by looking at the book and deciding what we thought it was about. We wrote questions to come back and answer later. We looked at adjectives and how to describe a character or a place like the beautiful summer garden in the story. We created our own dramatisations of parts of the story. See if you can spot some good acting in our pictures below!
We looked at some of Mrs Winn's garden design books and designed our own gardens using watercolours and adding more details later.
We used blue, white and silver to create our own tints and tones to make the perfect picture of a winter garden. See how many shades of blue you can count!
Martin, a professional storyteller came to visit our school. We all had to join in and he made it so easy to remember the stories using actions and rhymes. We were all singing "picking peas, land on my knees" for the rest of the day!
We looked at how to improve our own Y2 garden and decided that we would like to brighten it up with some flowers. We planted lots of daffodil bulbs, wrote our own labels and even planted some garlic bulbs. We talked about the lifecycle of a bulb and learned which way up they should go.
Look out for our Daffodils in the Spring!
We would like to try and make garlic bread in the Summer Term with our home grown produce.
We decided that we couldn't learn about Giants all week without making one! Look out for our 7 foot tall Giant of Jum in our assembly soon!! We enjoyed mixing our own colours and adding our own textures to the paint. We especially liked the effect that adding sand made. It made his chin all scratchy!
Make sure you come to our assembly on Friday 6th November to meet the 7 foot tall Giant of Jum, see our multi-layered summer/winter garden pictures and taste some GIANT snacks!!
