Practical Maths

We had great fun in Maths last week!  We were comparing weights and looking at measuring in grams and kilograms.  We even got to compare the weight of our shoes!

Another day, Miss Moscrop tried to trick us by giving us 400g bags of pasta to weigh that were only half full.

Computing

In Computing this term, we have been learning how to word process.  We have learned how to type, insert words, delete mistakes, add capital letters, punctuation and change fonts, sizes and colours.  We used our skills to type up sentences from our English lesson and add the "missing" punctuation!

English poetry walk

In English we have been writing our own poetry based on the senses.  We went on a poetry walk to look for inspiration.  We were particularly looking for the smallest details that you don't see every day!  We found some amazing things.

"The far away rumble of fast cars"
"Creeping tree roots out of the grass."
"Tiny plants pushing under the green fence"

Art and Science - Natural Sculptures

We have looked at the artwork of the famous artist Andy Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy creates amazing sculptures outdoors using only natural materials.
We were inspired by his work to have a go at creating our own natural sculptures.  First we needed to check we could identify materials which were natural or man-made. Next we used the natural materials to create simple sculptures.  We had noticed Goldsworthy often has curves and circles in his sculptures so have included these shapes in our own work.

Sorting Materials

Starting our topic on useful materials we've spent time recognising and naming a range of materials. We've thought carefully about what different materials are like and developed our vocabulary to describe materials.  Here are some ways we have sorted and grouped materials. 

Keeping Safe at Streetwise

This week we learnt all about keeping safe at Streetwise. We enjoyed experiencing a range of scenarios such as crossing roads, how to get out of a smoky house and how to phone the emergency services. Have a look at the posters we created afterwards to help share the safety information we learnt.
